Description
Gigantspinosaurus was a medium-sized Stegosaur that once roamed prehistoric China. Its name means 'enormous spine lizard'. Compared to other Stegosaurs, Gigantspinosaurus possessed smaller dorsal plates, but larger shoulder spines, with a relatively large head.
Discovery
The first Gigantspinosaurus fossil was found in 1985 near Jinquan in China. It was originally misidentified as a specimen of Tuojiangosaurus. The holotype was discovered in the Upper Shaximiao Formation.
Paleoecology
Fossil finds from the regions where Gigantspinosaurus has been located indicate a wet environment with rich marine life.
