Description
Muttaburrasaurus was an ornithopod (bird-like) dinosaur that once lived in Australia. Its name means 'Muttaburra lizard' after the location it was first discovered. It had shearing teeth, probably adapted for consuming tough plants like conifers and palms.
Discovery
The first fossil of Muttaburrasaurus was found in Muttaburra in Queensland, Australia in 1963. The holotype specimen was discovered later in the Mackunda Formation in New South Wales.
Paleoecology
The Muttaburrasaurus' diet indicates their environment to be semi-arid with few waterways.
