Facts

Unlike some other plesiosaurs, Kaiwhekea has very small and numerous teeth. They are thought to have helped it catch small, fast prey.
The single known Kaiwhekea specimen was found nearly complete in Kaitiki formation in New Zealand!
Kaiwhekea means 'squid eater' because paleontologists believe these creatures were a staple of its diet.
Kaiwhekea is a plesiosaur that lived during the Late Cretaceous.
