Description
Segisaurus is one of the smallest theropods from the coelophysidae family, weighing between 10 and 15 pounds and growing to around one metre in length. Lightweight but with long, powerful legs, Segisaurus is impressively agile and can run at rapid speed - a vital tool for escaping predators.
Discovery
This genus was discovered by Navajo guide Max Littlesalt and geology student Robert F. Thomas in 1933, when they unearthed a number of vertebrae, hip and limb bones from the Segi Canyon in Arizona. American palaeontologist Charles Lewis Camp formally named the new discovery in 1936 - as you might have guessed, Segisaurus takes its name from the location of its discovery.
Paleoecology
Segisaurus first existed around 180 million years ago, during the Jurassic period. It lived alongside a host of other dinosaurs native to North America, in a dry, sandy environment. The genus’ small stature meant that it fed primarily on insects and lizards, although it was also a willing scavenger of animals killed by larger carnivores including Dilophosaurus.
Cohabitation Preferences
Behaviors are scripted in game files but are not guaranteed to happen. Dominance, territory, and traits determine whether they would actually fight.
